Onto the Streets Sometime Later

This was a time when Street Photography seemed to be having a moment, in the UK at least. I think a lot of the awareness grew out of the internet. Most of the other photographers in the show were part of the iN-PUBLiC group (some have since left) and I was certainly visible on the web at the time but also showing with LIP in the real world. I was also a member of a long-since closed, Topica forum dedicated to Street Photography, which was how I met a bunch of wonderful photographers in real life, including Jawed Ashraf, Julian Thomas, John Brownlow (the author / screenwriter who started the Topica SP group), Kevin Bjorke and probably a few others I'm forgetting.

A few years later the curators of this show authored the Street Photography Now book. Twenty years on, there are a ton of Street Photography books but back then, I think the original Bystander history was the only one (the first edition was published in 1994 and was certainly an inspiration to me). Here's the current edition Bystander: A History of Street Photography. Books are affiliate links.
